Woo! Missed this place.

Week One Challenge
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Word Count: 382
Rating: PG13
Scenario: Harry and Draco argue at a videostore over what to rent for their evening.



“So what’ll it be?”

Harry’s expression is mockingly sweet. Draco doesn’t meet his gaze, hands shoved angrily in the pockets of Muggle trousers.

“Well?” Harry asks again, his smile touching on smug. Under the fluorescent lights, flanked by fictional titles promising all manner of thrills for pocket-change, he seems far smaller and less dangerous than Draco has come to know him as in the flush of darkness and personal humiliation, and yet the presence of that harder, unforgiving Harry is not lost on Draco even here.

He glares. “I don’t fucking care.”

“Oh yes you do.” The voice gains a steely edge beneath the sugar. “You care very much, because those who aren’t grateful to be given a choice of activities will not get a choice of activities.”

And Draco tenses quite visibly at that. He doesn’t like being out among Muggles, wearing Muggle clothes and doing Muggle things. He doesn’t like being anywhere near Harry, either, never mind being permanently in his custody. He doesn’t like the way the war ended, and what he has become. But he knows there were worse, far worse choices he could have made.

With a sigh, he gestures at the box in Harry’s right hand. Harry glances at it, almost looking interested before setting it back on the shelf and starting for the counter with the other film. “Good call,” he says brightly, and Draco can only bite his lip till it hurts against the flood of curses and insults he’d love to throw right now – for this minor affront and all that came before, and all that will inevitably come in the future, for as long as either lives.

Draco balls his fists, too, knowing he’d like to do more than shout at Harry for all that he’s lost, for everything that’s stolen from him night after night. But in this as well he restrains himself, because Harry said earlier that this outing was to be a treat, and that this time, on account of good behaviour, Draco would be permitted to watch the film in its entirety, uninterrupted. And anything, Draco has long since decided, that keeps Harry’s filthy Half-blood hands off him, even if it’s just for a couple hours, can’t be all that bad.

Even if it is Thelma and Louise.

Wow. Far from being a sappy vision of post-war harmony between the boys, this was dystopian and biting and quite changed my view of the challenge. Cheers!

Holy shit, Blue. Just....holy shit. That was powerful and chilling and oh so full of life and feeling that I wanted to cry. You're one of the only people I know who can do that to me in five hundred words or less. Absolutely incredible.

Goodness. Way to take a trope and use our expectations of it to stand it--and us--completely on end.

This is subversion at its best.

I want to beg you to write more H/D but I'm not even sure I could handle it if it's all as cutting and dark and breath-stealing as this is.

Wow, excellent fic. I can almost taste Draco's bitter helplessness here. Very powerful and sad, and I like nasty!Harry too. :0)

That was brilliant. I love it when people twist challenges and go in a completely different direction, and this was excellent, espcecially your word choice. Very sparse and sharp, but still powerful. Loved it.
